FAQs

How does my organization apply for a grant?

Please contact the Board before submitting an application. SKCF uses the Common Grant Application from the Council of Michigan Foundations. Please also click on the “Grant Application” tab in the upper right corner. We prefer to receive grant applications electronically, but you can also send it via mail.

What grants do you fund?

The Foundation funds grants for operating expenses, salaries, small construction projects that will advance the nonprofit, start-ups, and existing programs. The Board does not promise multi-year grants. This list is not exhaustive and we may grant in emergency situations.

How often does SKCF review grant applications?

The Board will contact you when they receive your application. SKCF reviews grants continuously throughout the year and receives them at any time.

What size are your grants?

The majority of the Foundation’s grants range from $2,000 to $15,000 and rarely up to $20,000.

What are your grant cycles?

Beginning in 2021, SKCF will grant in April and October. Ideally, the Board would like to receive your grant application two months prior to the cycle you are applying for. This allows the Board time to contact you with questions, concerns, or to set up a site visit.

After receiving a grant, do you require a follow-up report?

Yes, SKCF requires a follow-up report on the usage of the funds from the grant. This report is required nine to 12 months after your organization receives the grant.
